WD-40 Specialist Bike Chain Lube is an all-conditions bicycle chain lubricant designed to protect and lubricate your bike’s chain in a wide range of riding environments — including dry, wet, or mixed conditions. It comes as an easy-to-use aerosol spray that helps prevent squeaks and extend chain life. Its formula does not include wax, which means it won’t leave a sticky residue that can build up inside chain links and drivetrain components. It also contains corrosion inhibitors to help protect the metal from rust and wear.
Key points:
• Works in wet, dry, or varying conditions for year-round use.
• Provides superior lubrication that helps extend chain longevity.
• No wax formula so it avoids sticky buildup.
• Includes corrosion protection to guard against rust.
How to Apply Bike Chain Lube (Best Practice)
1. Clean the Chain First
o If the chain is dirty/gritty, wipe it with a rag.
o For a deeper clean, use a chain degreaser and brush, then dry thoroughly.
Clean before you lube — otherwise you trap grit that wears parts faster.
2. Position the Bike
o Flip the bike upside down or use a repair stand so the drivetrain is easy to access.
3. Apply the Lube
o Hold the aerosol straw/spray close to the inside of the chain.
o Slowly back-pedal with one hand while spraying one drop on each roller/link.
o Avoid overspray — wetting other components (cassette, derailleur pulleys) isn’t necessary.
4. Let It Penetrate
o Wait a minute or two so the lube soaks into the rollers and pins.
5. Wipe Off Excess
o Wipe the outer surfaces of the chain with a clean cloth.
o A thin, even film is what you want
