The Lovejoy Sure-flex Type J & S Elastomeric Couplings are commonly used as mechanical shaft couplings that transmit torque while accommodating misalignment and dampening vibration.
What are the Type J & S Couplings?
The Type J coupling - flange is made of Zinc Die Cast, while the Type S couplings are made of Cast Iron. Both are part of Lovejoy's jaw coupling product line. They consist of two parts:
1. Two metal hubs (with curved jaws)
2. One elastomeric element called the spider (typically made of rubber-like materials like NBR, Urethane, or Hytrel)
The spider fits between the two hubs and transmits torque while absorbing shock and allowing for misalignment.
