Lovejoy L-Type Jaw Coupling Element (Spider)
is the flexible part of a Lovejoy L-Type jaw coupling. It sits between two metal hubs and transmits torque by being compressed between the jaws.
Function of the Element (Spider)
• Transmits torque through compression (not shear)
• Dampens vibration and shock loads
• Allows angular and parallel misalignment
• Acts as a fail-safe component (coupling still runs briefly if it fails, but with metal contact)
Element/Spider Materials (L-Type)
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR)
• Most common / default material
• Color: Black
• Temperature range: -40°C to 100°C
• Hardness: ~80A Shore
• Properties:
1. High vibration damping
2. Good oil resistance
3. Best for general-purpose use
• Best for: pumps, fans, conveyors, general machinery
